Two French paintings, late 14th - early 15th century
|
Condition before treatment: visual examination under magnification shows poor stage of paintings, especially the condition of the painting of a female saint. Both panels warped, badly damaged by termites. The under sides were
gessed and painted, with multiple losses of the paint layer, crumbling gesso, thick layers of gesso and overpaints on original paint surfaces. Enormous areas of overpaint were discovered under the UV light.
Triptych of Saint Sebastian and triptych of a female saint
The treatment started with the preservation of the surface of the art object, facing the
entire painted surface of the paintings and consolidating of the paint and gesso layers.
